Pros
BIG and cheap.

Cons
A bit slow

Summary

The slow to start is because it stops spinning to save energy so it's not really a con but once it's going works marvelously.

Pros
Good price, good storage space and very quiet.

Cons
None

Summary

I have lot of WD drives, they are all in good working order, (even that some are very old) they never quit on me so far.

Pros
Large Capacity Silent Affordable

Cons
Slower Read/Write speeds compared to other HDD

Summary

WD Green is great for secondary storage, things that do not require fast read/write speeds. I use mine to store movies and videos and it works terrifically. Near silent operation - would definitely recommend.

Pros
Quiet. Big capacity

Cons
None

Summary

Installed it on the server machine for data. Reliable and quiet. Get it on special!

By: Ben_L 2014-07-18 23:13

Pros
very quiet, runs cool, no vibrations, good price, good speeds for a storage drive

Cons
might be pricey for some people

Summary

wd drives are solid, i have only gone with wd or seagate, and have picked wd more now since they seem to be silent and cause no vibrations, it stays very cool, speeds are decent, i don't game on this drive, its mainly secondary storage drive and it works very well

Pros
Cheap, low power consumption, almost silent.

Cons
Reliability.

Summary

Ordered two of these at ~160$, both were DoA and returned. The first one did a lot of clicks when the computer was powered, and never started to spin. The other one was impossible to format (SMART reported a failure).

Pros
Good quality. Good ratio price/GB

Cons
A bit noisy. Slow.

Summary

I purchased two of these on sale for around $160 each. Good ratio price/GB. Plenty of storage space. Not suitable for Video encoding jobs since it's slow, but it's good for anything else.

Pros
Quiet Operation Low power usage Tons of storage space

Cons
Slower speed due to being a green drive

Summary

I'm using one of these as a media drive. It has plenty of storage, decent speed and doesn't make a lot of noise. It's Western Digital so you know it has pretty good reliability as well.

Pros
Large capacity, good price

Cons
None

Summary

What can you say about WD? I have only made the mistake of purchasing a Seagate drive once and I won't make that mistake again. Even though I normally take WD Black I felt this was a better balance for price and size and I have been very happy with my decision.

Pros
perfect for storage quiet runs cool

Cons
only two year warranty (used to be three)

Summary

I got two of these hard drives in my main rig for the sole purpose of storing movies that are shared on the home network. I've been using the WD Green series for many years for that same purpose and have never had an issue. I also have two 4TB Deskstar 7K4000's in my system and the performance of the WD Green's is pretty close to those more "high end" hard drives. A two minute quick seek test in Hard Drive Sentinel averaged 7.40ms for the inactive WD Green drive, and 9.14ms for the other drive that is currently streaming an HD video over the home network. In comparison, the two Deskstar's inactive average seek times were only slightly better at 6.44ms and 6.46ms. Temperature wise, in my rig with two 120mm fans for intake, the max recorded temperatures over the one week that I've had the two WD Green's are 27C and 25C for each drive, with the average temperature being 24C to 25C. Minimum temperature recorded was 22C for each drive. For comparison, my Deskstar's average around 27C to 28C in the system. The WD Green's have always been quiet drives, and the 4TB version is no exception. They also consume less power than the average hard drive. They also tend to cost slightly less. They also run cooler. They are also more reliable. The only "negative" is that they are not super fast drives in comparison to the competition. Perfect for almost any use that isn't being your main hard drive.
